PHOTOS: Wayne Memorial outlasts Hartland in first-ever quarterfinal win

SOUTHFIELD >> No matter who came out on top, it was going to be a first.

And no matter who came out on top, it was going to be a long, long way to have from where they were not so long ago.

Fifteen games after a crushing rivalry loss to Brighton that left them just over .500, Hartland was back in the Class A quarterfinals Tuesday for the second time in four seasons.

But Wayne Memorial has come further. Just four years removed from a winless campaign, the Zebras are two wins away from a state title, moving on to the semifinals for the first time with a 54-44 win over Hartland on Tuesday.

Miss Basketball finalist Camree' Clegg and junior Janae Terry had 16 points each to lead Wayne Memorial (22-4), which will take on East Lansing (25-0) in the second Friday semifinal (2 p.m.) at Calvin College's Van Noord Arena.

Whitney Sollom had 22 points and 12 rebounds for Hartland (20-6), while Graysen Cockerham had 13 points and 13 rebounds in her final game in an Eagles uniform.
