PHOTOS: Saginaw Heritage rolls over East Lansing to claim Class A title

GRAND RAPIDS >> Clarkston coach Christine Rogers said it all after her regional champion Wolves were steamrolled by Saginaw Heritage in the quarterfinals.
"That's the most impressive team I've seen in the state all season," Rogers said. "Their speed, their quickness, their shooting ... it was overwhelming. We had no answers. They're the best team I've seen all season."
Now the No. 3-ranked Hawks (26-1) have the hardware to prove it, after crushing previously-unbeaten, No. 2-ranked East Lansing (26-1), by 21 points, 57-36, in the Class A championship contest Saturday at Calvin College's Van Noord Arena.
Nothing personal. The Hawks did that to everybody.
They outscored their opponents by 230 points in eight postseason games — an average of 28.75 points per game — after outscoring everybody by an average of 30.3 points per game in the regular season.
Heritage's only loss came to Class C finalist Detroit Edison PSA, by two points, in two overtimes, and its closest call against a Class A team came in the district finals against Midland Dow, a 12-point nailbiter.
It's the second state title for Heritage, and the first since 2002.
Four of the five Heritage starters — Madison Camp (15 points), Mallory Mccartney (10), Jessica Bicknell (12) and Shine Strickland-Gills (12) — scored in double figures, while Camp and Strickland-Gills recorded double-doubles.
East Lansing jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but Heritage rattled off the game's next 14 points before an Aaliyah Nye 3-pointer snapped the run. Heritage outscored East Lansing in every quarter but the third, leading 12-8 after one, 28-15 after two, and 42-29 headed to the fourth.
With the Trojans struggling against the Heritage zone — 10-for-43 from the floor (23.3 percent) — Aaliyah Nye's outside shooting was the lone bright spot. The sophomore hit six 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 18 points.
